GridGrabber Privacy Policy
Effective date: 18 August 2026
GridGrabber is a coordinate extraction, review, copy, and export application provided by Jānis Āboliņš.
Data processed by GridGrabber
GridGrabber processes text and coordinate files that you intentionally provide. The application identifies coordinate candidates, lets you review and optionally confirm them, and allows you to copy, open, import, or export supported location data.
GridGrabber does not require a user account and does not use a GridGrabber backend.
Local processing and storage
GridGrabber processes text and coordinates locally on your device.
To support normal use, recovery after a browser refresh, and temporary operating-system interruptions, GridGrabber may temporarily store the current working session on your device. This may include pasted text, imported coordinate candidates, review or confirmation state, and related session data.
This working data is not synchronized to GridGrabber servers or cloud storage.
GridGrabber stores useful application preferences separately from the location data you work on. Preferences such as the default MGRS zone, short-MGRS handling, map destination, export coordinate system, and export format may persist between sessions.
A force-quit followed by a fresh launch does not restore the previous working session. GridGrabber is not designed to maintain a persistent activity history of the text and coordinates you process.
Locally stored working data can also be removed by clearing the application's local data or starting a new session.
Clipboard and exported files
GridGrabber accesses the clipboard only as a direct result of your actions.
Clipboard writes occur when you use Copy actions or when you choose Open Map, which copies the selected coordinate before opening the external map application.
GridGrabber can generate export files, including KML and GPX, after a user action. Exported files are saved or shared only through destinations that you choose.
GridGrabber does not receive copies of exported files.
Internet access and external services
GridGrabber does not make automatic internet requests for coordinate processing, analytics, telemetry, synchronization, or remote storage.
Map Link Resolution is optional. For a supported Google Maps URL that cannot be resolved locally, GridGrabber offers resolution only after you explicitly confirm in the confirmation dialog. If you continue, only the selected Google Maps URL required for resolution is transmitted to Google Maps. No background or automatic resolution request occurs. The response is processed locally and any resulting location is added as an unconfirmed candidate for your review.
Supported Apple Maps and Waze coordinate-bearing URLs that can be resolved locally are parsed on-device and do not require a GridGrabber network request to those services.
When you choose Open Map, GridGrabber uses the selected destination preference—System default, Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze—and passes the selected candidate's validated numeric latitude and longitude to the chosen map application or service. GridGrabber does not intentionally send the surrounding pasted text, other candidates, or candidate provenance as part of this Open Map action.
The external map application or service processes information according to its own terms and privacy policy.
Normal KML and Simple KML files generated by GridGrabber are self-contained and do not contain externally hosted marker icons or other external resource URLs.
Analytics, crash reporting, advertising, and third-party SDKs
The current GridGrabber 1.0 release does not include analytics services, advertising SDKs, tracking SDKs, telemetry, or third-party crash-reporting services.
Data sharing and retention
GridGrabber does not operate a server that receives, stores, or retains your pasted text or coordinate data.
Working data may exist temporarily on your device as described under Local Processing and Storage.
Information that you intentionally send to another application or service—for example through Share, Open Map, or optional Map Link Resolution—is handled by that application or service according to its own terms and privacy policy.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to GridGrabber or applicable legal requirements.
The current version will be published on the official GridGrabber Privacy Policy page.
